The Awards Night 2024
The Scout and Guide Fellowship Ghana (SGF-Gh) successfully held its 2024 Scouts and Guides
Awards ceremony to honour exceptional individuals who played significant roles in the Ghana
Walk for Peace campaign, a flagship initiative of the Peace Gathering 2024. The event celebrated
youth leadership, volunteerism, and patriotism, all core values of the Fellowship, and was graced
by members of the Fellowship and its supporters that joined the campaign.

Overview of the Ghana Walk for Peace 2024
The Ghana Walk for Peace brought together over 5,000 participants in a historic seven-day walk
from the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi to the Ga Mantse Palace in Accra, Ghana.
The symbolic journey served as a platform for spreading peace messages across multiple
communities. The event climaxed with the ceremonial handover of a Peace Torch from His
Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II in Kumasi to His Royal Majesty King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II in Accra,
reinforcing the commitment to unity and harmony in the nation.

Top Honours: Salis Amina Jerry Named Best Scout and Guide 2024
The highlight of the evening was the crowning of Salis Amina Jerry as the Overall Best Scout and
Guide 2024. In recognition of her outstanding contribution to the Ghana Walk for Peace, Ms Salis
received an all-expenses-paid educational trip to the Netherlands, sponsored by Curiosity
Learning Ghana. The trip, scheduled for 2025, is designed to expose her to international
perspectives and strengthen her leadership abilities.

- William Baah was honoured with dual awards for Best Youth Organiser and Best Scout
and Guide Trainer. - Awards were also presented in various categories, including:
- Best Region
- Best Volunteers
- Best Hikers
- Best Tent Pitcher
Remarks from SGF-Gh Leadership
Board Chairman of SGF-Gh, Dr Albert Tetteh Botchway, commended Salis and other awardees
for their patriotism and active engagement in national development initiatives. He also disclosed
SGF-Gh’s vision to train an additional 5,000 young people at a proposed ultra-modern leadership
centre, which will focus on shaping youth into responsible citizens.
Despite the progress, Dr Botchway voiced concerns over limited financial support from
government bodies, highlighting the pressing need for resources to sustain and expand SGF-Gh’s
youth programmes.

Appeal for Support
SGF-Gh President, Mr Andrew Botchwey, reiterated a call for government and corporate support
to enable the organisation to further its mission of nurturing a peaceful and patriotic generation.
“With government assistance, we can reach our goals of fostering a constructive and patriotic
society,” he stated.
Acknowledgement of Sponsors
Citations of appreciation were presented to sponsors and partners for their invaluable support.
Conclusion
The 2024 Scouts and Guides Awards served as both a celebration and a reaffirmation of SGF-Gh’s
commitment to youth development, national unity, and peacebuilding.
